L4: smoke signals

Decades before hi-def and wifi, there were smoke signals. The oldest form of long distance communication, smoke signals were used in ancient cultures to signal danger, relay important news, or gather a community together — one puff for attention!, two puffs for all is well!, and three puffs for danger, trouble, need help!

These days, ‘smoke signals’ is also a term used to convey intention. So maybe you have a message to send someone apart from you in body or spirit (fictional or not). Maybe it’s a poem, a painting, or series of photos. Intentional attention. A call to gather. Danger to relay.

One thing is for sure — where there’s smoke, there’s (creative) fire.

Submission deadline is Friday, October 28, 2022. As always, we can’t wait to see what you submit.
